Hi! I’m Kaitlyn ( “Miss Katie” ).

While I initially envisioned Charlie’s Anglers as a “side-passion-project”, it has quickly evolved into my most exciting accomplishment (+ adventure) yet!

I’ve poured my heart and soul into this small (but mighty) business, ultimately combining all of my life-long loves: science, the outdoors, exploring, teaching, learning, and most importantly, inspiring littles to care deeply for the world around them.

I am a Biologist by trade, with a background in Biology + Ecology + Conservation.   

My Master’s is in Ecology + Evolutionary Biology [Appalachian State University] and my Bachelors’ are in Biology + Anthropology [UNC Chapel Hill].

My “Big Life Goal”: do research on every continent (4 so far!).

    I started Charlie’s Anglers a few years ago while working full-time as a Biologist here in Charleston. What started as a side-venture quickly became a part of my life that brought me so much joy!

    I moved to Charleston to work as a Biologist at the US Department of Agriculture researching vector entomology.

    I earned my Master’s degree from Appalachian State University and I studied bumble bee population genetics in Colorado for my Thesis.

    I graduated from UNC Chapel Hill and double majored in Biology and Anthropology and minored in Environmental Studies.

    I went to college thinking I would study medicine but took a cool research opportunity at the Duke Lemur Center which ultimately changed the trajectory of my life!

    I studied Rainforest Research Techniques in Australia and scuba dived in the Great Barrier Reef.

    I researched capuchin monkey habituation in Paraguay and traveled to Peru after.

    I love to travel and my most recent trip was to Switzerland and France.

    I traveled to Belize and Guatemala to search for Jaguars and visit Tikal. I also snorkeled in the second largest barrier reef in the world!

    I've backpacked through Europe for five weeks and traveled to Sweden, Czech Republic, Germany, Amsterdam, and Denmark.

    I traveled across country twice while studying bumble bees -14 states and several National Parks - Rocky Mtns, Tetons, Yellowstone, Badlands, and Mt. Rushmore.

    I camped across the country for over five weeks after college graduation and visited 18 National Parks - Yosemite, Tetons, and Zion were my favorites.

    I lived in the Appalachian Mtns for over six years before moving to the LowCountry. Favorite place on Earth.

    I love to try new things (even if they're scary) - like spelunking - exploring a cave a mile underground!

    Deep sea fishing with my family got me “hooked” on saltwater fishing.

    I have an adventure kitty named Denali who’s my OG sidekick - she hikes, kayaks, and loves exploring.
