Hi! I’m Katie, the founder, owner, and operator of Charlie’s Anglers.
I started Charlie’s Anglers a few years ago while working full-time as a Biologist here in Charleston. What started as a side-venture, quickly became a part of my life that brought me so much joy!
I moved to Charleston to work as a Biologist at the US Department of Agriculture, researching vector entomology (the relationship between plants, insects, and viruses).
I love to travel and my most recent trip was to Scotland, Wales, England, and Tenerife. The Scottish Highlands were incredible and taking a boat out on Loch Ness was so cool (no Nessie though)!
Spent Christmas in a castle in Switzerland and traveled to Chamonix, France.
Traveled to Belize to search for Jaguars and snorkeled in the second largest barrier reef. Then traveled to Guatemala to visit the old Mayan ruins of Tikal.
Lived in the Appalachian Mountains for over six years before moving to the LowCountry.
Earned my Master’s degree from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. For my Thesis, I studied bumble bee population genetics in the central Rocky Mountains in Colorado.
Traveled solo across country twice while studying bumble bees. Went to 14 states and visited several National Parks - Rocky Mtns, Tetons, Yellowstone, Badlands, and Mt. Rushmore.
Backpacked through Europe for five weeks and traveled to Sweden, Germany, and Denmark. I spent Christmas in Czech Republic and New Years in Amsterdam.
Graduated from UNC Chapel Hill, where I double majored in Biology and Anthropology and minored in Environmental Studies.
Worked at the Duke Lemur Center (famous for Zooboomafoo!!) as an Animal Technician and also did a research project examining the relationship between female hierarchy and allo-grooming among ring-tailed lemurs.
Spent a summer in field school studying Rainforest Research Techniques in Queensland, Australia. I visited the Daintree, the oldest rainforest in the world, and I scuba dived in the Great Barrier Reef.
Camped across the country for over five weeks after college graduation and visited 18 National Parks - Yosemite, Tetons, and Zion were my favorites.
After college, I traveled to Paraguay and spent a summer studying capuchin monkey habituation. After Paraguay, I traveled to Peru and went to Machu Picchu.
Spelunking - exploring a cave a mile underground!
Love to go fly fishing in the Appalachian Mtns as often as I can!
Deep sea fishing with my family got me “hooked” on saltwater fishing.
Have an adventure kitty named Denali who’s my OG sidekick - she hikes, kayaks, and loves exploring.
Also have a wild cat named Birdie.
Love to garden and currently have at least 40 houseplants (at one point it was over 100).
