MEET THE OWNER

Hi! I’m Kaitlyn - the owner of Charlie’s Anglers.

  • I love the outdoors - fishing, camping, hiking, gardening, and everything in between!

  • I love to travel and my "big life goal" is to travel (and do research) on all 7 continents (I've got 4 so far!).

  • I am a biologist by trade and have a Master's degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. I studied bumble bees out west in Colorado for my Thesis.

  • I went to UNC Chapel Hill for undergrad and did research at the Duke Lemur Center and the Tiger Rescue Center.

  • I've done research in Chapel Hill, Australia, Paraguay, Boone, Colorado, and here in Charleston.

  • I started Charlie's Anglers a few years ago as a “side passion project" but found so much joy and happiness teaching kiddos that I left my full-time federal job last Fall to pursue this full-time.

  • I love teaching, outdoor education, and inspiring littles to love nature and care deeply for the world around them.

  • I have an adventure kitty named Denali who is almost 11 - she has gone kayaking, hiking, and loves the mountains and the beach as much as I do :)

    Started CA 2023

    Moved to Charleston to work as a Biologist at the US Department of Agriculture researching vector entomology.

    Went to college thinking I would study medicine. TGot a random internship working for the Duke Lemur Center and it changed the trajectory of my life!

    Studied Rainforest Research Techniques in Australia and scuba dived in the Great Barrier Reef

    Graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a double major in Biology and Anthropology and a minor in Environmental Studies.

    Camped across the country for five weeks and visited 18 National Parks (Yosemite was my favorite!).

    Studied capuchin monkeys in Paraguay for a summer and then met my twin sister to travel around Peru!

    I love to try new things (even if they're scary) - like exploring a cave a mile underground!

    I trekked solo across the country to do alpine research for a summer in Colorado, fell in love with the alpine bumble bees, and there began what would become my Graduate Thesis!

    Traveled across country two more times while studying bumble bees! Checked off more National Parks!

    Lived in Boone, NC for 6 years and no other place on Earth means as much to me as the Appalachian Mountains.

    Backpacked through Europe for five weeks and traveled to Sweden, Czech Republic, Germany, Amsterdam, and Denmark!

    I got my Master's in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Appalachian State University - my Thesis was on alpine bumble bee population dynamics.

    At the USDA, I worked in the lab, greenhouses, and planted fields!

    I moved to Charleston in the summer of 2020!

    I traveled to Belize and Guatemala to search for Jaguars and visit Tikal! I also snorkeled in the second largest barrier reef in the world!
