Daily activities in Fishing Club include:
Learning fishing fundamentals like knot tying, rigging, and baiting
Practicing fishing techniques like casting and retrieving
Learning seasonal fishing practices like targeting redfish or sea trout

Mini lessons on marsh ecology, animal biology, and saltwater species identification

What is the schedule?
Fishing Club (FC) is a reliable, recurring, and flexible fishing session offered throughout the school year, conveniently following CCSD’s calendar. FC is offered from 2 - 6 PM, with early drop-off or late pick-up options available - just drop us a line using our quick inquiry form below.
Signing-up multiple kids from the same family? Reach out to us for information on our Friends & Family Discount.
Our after-school program with Mt. Pleasant Rec Dept (MP) is offered every Weds in October from 4 - 6 PM. Register with tompsc.org.
What to bring? Water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray.
What to wear? Sun protection (i.e., hat, sunglasses, pfg), breathable layers, marsh/hook-safe shoes (i.e., close-toed, chacos, natives, sneaks). Dress for the season.
What is the weather policy? We will fish with light rain. We will NOT fish with lightning & high winds.
FC: we will meet at a designated shelter. If we have to cancel for dangerous conditions, we will work with you to reschedule or we will fully refund you.
MP: we will meet at Darby instead of Mt. P Pier. For any changes, you will be notified by their Program Coordinator, Ellie Long.
What is the cancellation policy?
FC: We have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Rescheduling is always available.

We offer private, customized one-on-one and small group fishing lessons with flexible instruction geared towards absolute beginners or seasoned anglers.
What lessons can include:
Learning fishing fundamentals like knot tying, rigging, and baiting
Practicing fishing techniques like casting and retrieving
Learning seasonal fishing practices like targeting redfish or sea trout
Reviewing angler safety, responsibilities, and local SCDNR regulations
Mini science lessons on marsh ecology, animal biology, and saltwater species identification
Practice and mastery of techniques like bait presentation, casting accuracy, and species-specific rigs, lures, and bait.
Deep dives into reading the tide, paying attention to the seasons, and adapting technique to fish behavior.

Our typical rate starts at $50 per hour with a 2-hour minimum required for booking. Rates are adjusted for group size, ages, experience levels, and goals. Typical lessons are suitable for up to 6 anglers, but special requests can be made by dropping us a line using our quick inquiry form below.

Where do private fishing lessons take place? We meet at public land-based fishing spots across Charleston parks, piers, and docks.
Should we bring our own equipment? All rods, gear, bait, and tackle are provided, but we encourage bringing your own rod if you have one.
Do I need a fishing license? Anglers over 16 must have a valid fishing license from SCDNR. We can provide instructions on how to purchase a license upon booking.
What target species can we expect to catch? Depending on the season and location, we can target speckled seatrout, redfish, flounder, sheepshead, and black drum.
Can parents join the lesson? Our kids fishing lessons are designed as drop-off sessions. We offer Family Fishing Lessons and Mommy & Me Lessons if you are interested in learning the ropes.
How many hours should I book for a beginner? A 2-hour session is typically the ideal window to cover rigging, casting mechanics, and actual fishing time.
What is your weather policy? We will fish in rain, but NOT lightning or high winds. If weather will be unsafe or affect the experience, we will work with you to reschedule.
How do I book a lesson? Use our online booking portal to select your preferred date and time slot and we will be in touch to confirm.

Our goal is to help foster a sense of curiosity among budding scientists, deepen the connection to nature among young outdoor enthusiasts, and guide the next generation of anglers and environmental stewards, one cast a a time.

Group lessons start at $50 per hour with a 2-hour minimum. Rates are designed to be accessible and flexible and are based on class size and goals.

How do we sign-up? We currently offer homeschool and fieldtrip programs as private, small group events. Just drop us a line using our quick inquiry form to get started.
How do our classes align with science curriculum requirements? Our programs are designed to supplement environmental and life sciences. We will work with you to closely align to SC academic standards.
Where do classes meet? We rotate across select Charleston County parks, public docks, and accessible salt marsh sites to fish, crab and get up close to our diverse local habitats and their inhabitants.
Can parents stay and participate? Parents are welcome to stay, observe, or volunteer as chaperones to support the outdoor learning environment.
What equipment do students use? We provide all rods, gear, bait, tackle, nets, and crab traps.
What do students bring? That will depend entirely on lesson plans and goals.
Is a minimum commitment required? Programs are flexible and can be booked as a single session or as a more structured, multi-week seasonal block. .
What happens if it rains? We will move to a designated shelter or pivot to meet at your homeschool location. If weather is unsafe or will negatively affect the program, we will reschedule for the next available time.

In addition to our fishing programs and camps, we offer science-forward workshops that dive deeper into topics like marine biology, coastal ecology, marsh dynamics, and animal behavior.
We turn the coastline into an immersive, fun, and engaging classroom for all ages.

We offer year-round, bite-sized, 90-minute science sessions | $30 per session | Topics and locations vary across Charleston parks, piers, and docks.

Are science sessions held indoors or outdoors? They are conducted outdoors, adjacent to the salt marsh.
Are live animals harmed during these sessions? Never! All organisms (such as mud minnows, fiddler crabs, and shrimp) are ethically collected, temporarily observed, and safely released back into their habitat.
Can these sessions be booked for private groups? Yes, our Science Sessions are fully customizable for private group gatherings like homeschool co-ops, field trips, or any group of friends looking to learn more about the Lowcountry (but who may not be as into fishing).
What topics are covered in the sessions? Topics rotate monthly, covering anything from oyster reef filtration, bird adaptations, estuarine food webs, and marine pollution.
Do parents need to stay for the session? Most sessions are designed for kids to be dropped-off, but parents are always welcome to attend and observe at a distance.
How large are the science session groups? Groups are kept intimate (capped at 12 participants) to ensure every child gets hands-on access to any materials or gear.
